Fly Free, Sacred Champion

Eliga Fox
Sister Scrapbook
January 1, 1964-September 13, 2008

The Sisterhood of the Agave Spirit was first conceived as a network of support for a very dear woman, Elly (see post "Lessons from Elly", July 16). The Sisterhood has since grown to become such for many strong, amazing women, but that's beside the point. Elly was so proud to be a charter member of this group and took her role very seriously. She was our Sacred Champion and Keeper of the (Scrapbook) Past.

Elly lead such a hard hard life. The first half of her life was a story of such heartbreak that would be inconceivable to most of us. So many people would just continue that pattern. Not Elly! Then, in recent years, she found out that she had cancer. First she lost her eye, then half of her liver. Still she fought on. There were only two goals she had each day: to love and be loved and to LIVE.

Most would have succumbed early in the game, but I am convinced that it was her fierce determination to live that kept her going. That, and the people that loved her.

Her last months were consumed by the desire to create these wonderful scrapbooks for each of her family. They all had to be just right... I can see her, head bent to the task and it makes me smile.

She gave me so much... God! She gave us all so much. She's one of the people who convinced me to start this blog because she believed in the words I had to say. She threatened and cajoled me to face the canvas (I'm an artist) when I shirked that duty. She made me feel I had worth. And I'm not the only one for whom she performed this wonderful role. What a woman! I'll miss her.

As a true Texan, she had a huge spirit. And as Hurricane Ike past from Texas, so too did she.

I ask of each of you... Please go back and read Elly's story and learn from her.

Elly, I know you're out there watching over us. As is my right as namer, I hereby proclaim you to be

Sister Elly, Sacred Guardian Angel Forevermore

Please, raise a glass and let us all toast this lovely spirit. Here's to Sister Elly!

Signed,
Sister WooWoo
The Sacred Keeper of the (WooWoo) Spirit
