The Sisterhood of the Agave Spirit

The Sisterhood of the Agave Spirit is one of those groups that a person would be proud to be a member of, but let me tell you... The number one requirement is not a thing most people want to have as a part of their lives. In fact, it's a thing to be avoided if at all possible.

The first requirement is that the candidate is a woman who has seen (or is seeing) the other side of hell and come through with some dignity and class intact. Tough requirement, eh? But I suppose even WE must have standards! LOL

As I mentioned in the prior post, the Sisterhood was first conceived as a support network for a friend. Sisters Tequila and WTF, along with myself discussed it more and the idea expanded and developed a life of its own. Good things tend to do that! Now it is a conglomeration of women who have fought the beast (each has her own monster under the bed) and who values what it is to be a girl friend.

So, why am I writing about something so obviously private? Like I haven't done that before, right??? LOL It's because with Elly's passing, girl friends are a thought that rides my mind right now...

There's an expression, "Girl friends are forever". Damn, if there's ever been a truism that holds, it's that one! I don't deny the importance of the men in our lives, but, guys, you sometimes just don't get it... I blame it on testosterone poisoning. Remember, my blog, therefore I'm right! LOL In the dark of the night, even if it's the brightest day, we call on our ladies... And they're here for us! How amazing is that?

I spend far too much time in my head (ya think?) and sometimes I get really lonely (no joke intended, I'm serious!). I just pop in my Sisterhood CDs (yea, we have those... sick, aren't we? LMAO) and I'm no longer alone. It seems crazy, but when I listen to that music, I can picture each and every one of my Sisters and I feel them here. Hey, I never claimed sanity!

Our Sacred Symbol is the starfish. Why? Cut off an arm and another grows back. In this little group, there's always an arm to reach out to you. Yup, we're here! And, hey people... Starfish are beautiful, ergo so are we!!!

A Sister is one with compassion.

A Sister is a friend not only through the good times, but is ready, willing, and SO there to hold another's hand through the bad, depressing, and indifferent times.

A Sister has heart... not only that, but is the possessor of platinum diamond-encrusted sheer balls.

A Sister is the champion of her own cause, whatever that may be.

A Sister is trustworthy and loyal. She is the keeper of secrets. She is the voice in the night.

A Sister is not judgmental. She knows that she can never understand another's life since each person owns a unique heart.

A Sister is the essence of summer, welcoming the laid-back as well as the strange and unusual. Summer is a point of view... easy times, music, friendships, and laughter.

Most of all, a Sister is fierce in her love... Especially for her Sisters!

That's it. Oh... We also have some uber-secret vows that we take. If I told you about those... well, I'd have to kill you and I don't look good in orange.

So, if you ever pass a car and it has this odd decal on the windshield or rear window that says "Sisterhood of the Agave Spirit" in its distinct blue and white, know that you're in the presence of an awesome woman. Then take a moment to think of the incredible women in YOUR life, maybe even give a few of them a call. You'll be glad you did!
