On Myspace, I've friended a few of my favorite authors. The publishing world can sometimes be a challenging arena. Factors exist that most of us never think about. The following is a bulletin that was posted by one of my favorite ladies... You should check out her books if you're looking for some awesome escapism!

| Subject: | Borders and THE DEVIL'S DUE |
| Body: | As you may know if you've been following this saga, there's been some kind of confusion about whether Borders/Waldenbooks is carrying THE DEVIL'S DUE. I have been assured by the national buyer for Borders that both chains are carrying the book; however, I have yet to see any evidence of books in a Borders or Waldenbooks store, outside of stores that have placed special orders.
Borders is the second largest book chain in the U.S., so as you can imagine, having my book not be on their shelves for the first week of release has not made my sales record look terribly good. As I've mentioned in earlier blogs, this is the last book my publisher is going to see results for before it comes time for us to talk contracts again. (Yes, my publisher knows there are extenuating circumstances, but that doesn't stop the numbers from looking... let's say less than ideal.)
There are two more Morgan Kingsley books under contract (SPEAK OF THE DEVIL, which comes out July 28, and another, tentatively titled THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND, which I'm working on right now). If you've been enjoying the series and want to see more books, please help me get the word out that THE DEVIL'S DUE is available. Even if it's not in your local Borders or Waldenbooks (yet), you can have them order it for you, and other chains (e.g., Barnes & Noble) do have it in stock.
My undying thanks to those of you who went out of your way to buy the book in its first week even if you had to do a little searching. I know some of you went out in hopes of helping me hit a best seller list, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen with this book. But hey, there's always next year. |
